Fun, Easy Ideas to Celebrate Earth Day
Fun, Easy Ideas to Celebrate Earth Day
Earth Day 2024 is happening on April 22, 2024, and we have compiled a bunch of ideas to celebrate Earth Day and everyday sustainability.
- Start a garden and grow some of your own food. If you don’t have the space, start with a few pots of tomatoes, peppers or herbs.
- Make a donation to an organization that champions sustainable causes, like Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund or 350.org (climate action).
- Plant a tree.
- Plant wildflowers native to your area to support local pollinators. Use the National Wildlife Federation’s Native Plant Finder to discover which plants are native to your area.
- Seek out a local farmer or artisan who grows or creates their products sustainably. Buy from them something you need and will use (don’t just buy for the sake of buying).
- Go thrifting! Save some great gently-used items from the landfill.
- Join your local Buy Nothing group. This is such a great resource for reducing waste in your community (and you’ll save money too!).
- Start a compost bin. Composting has lots of benefits for your garden and the environment.
- Make sure you’re recycling correctly. Don’t “wishcycle” (throw things in the bin in hopes that they will get recycled). Study up with our recycling guide.
- Start a recycling program in your office.
- Take a walk in a local park and pick up any trash you find along the way.
- Get a rain barrel for collecting your own rainwater for use in watering your yard and garden. Check with your local park system to see if they offer rain barrel workshops.
- Build a bird house, bat house or install a birdbath in your yard to attract and support wildlife.
- Cut down your junk mail!
- Support struggling species every time you send a letter by ordering some Save Vanishing Species stamps.
- Plant trees while you search online. Switch your search engine to Ecosia to use your online searches to fund reforestation. Learn more.
- Get a good, reusable mug and make a pledge to use it rather than takeout cups whenever possible.
